God’s grace lies at the heart of the Christian faith. It’s what moved him to send Jesus to the cross to forgive our sin. It’s how we are able to be counted as a part of God’s family. I think the times in my life where I am farthest from God are when I forget about the power of his grace. Sometimes this comes out as “God could never forgive me for that.” More often than not for me, though, it comes out in me taking God’s grace for granted. I forget how much I’ve been forgiven and how wonderful God’s mercy and grace have been to me. In the words of Jesus to Simon the Pharisee, “Whoever has been forgiven little loves little” (Luke 7:47, NIV). My love and desire for God wane because I forget just how great he has been toward me.

Today, may we be reminded of his grace. For some of us, that’s going to take the form of being reminded that God really does forgive our sin (just take a look at 1 John 1:9 if you don’t believe me). But for others of us, it’s a reminder that we are all sinners and all equally saved by God’s great grace. It really is a pretty glorious thing.
