Beyond Sunday – Unexpected: Prologue

God has been showing me two things all week:

How blessed I am.

How many people around me are hurting.

While I was grocery shopping yesterday, I was overwhelmed with thankfulness because not only are we able to buy groceries on a weekly basis for our family but we are able to select the (usually) healthy meals we want to feed our family rather than being forced to choose something because we can’t afford anything different. Yes, I was at Aldi, and yes, I am on a budget – but wow – what an amazing blessing. Initiating conversation at the table with my family about the realization I had (which of course had me in tears) and my boys were confused – Ramen noodles for dinner? Yes please they say! – They have no idea. Thank you, God. And thank you that they have no idea.

On the flip side of that, I have felt such pain. God has placed me in many conversations this week with friends and family members who are really suffering. Going through situations that I can’t imagine – situations that are not healed with cookies or gifts – situations that are only healed with God.

I was talking to my Uncle Randy last week about something and he gave me advice that really spoke to my heart:

“If you and I and those around don’t show Christ’s love, who will? RE-SET, RE-CHARGE … RE-THINK … TRUST GOD TO DO WHAT IS OUT OF YOUR CONTROL AND YOU CANT DO”.

Trust God to do what you can’t do. Get out there and invite (we can do that). But it’s when that person really enters that relationship with God – that’s when change happens and hurts heal.

Matt Redman – You Never Let Go

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back
I know you are near

And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

(Chorus:)
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth

(Chorus)

Yes, I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You
