Desert Song.

This week’s #MusicMonday is a cool song that I was reminded of at our St. John Campus a few weeks ago called “Desert Song.” Here’s a cool video of the crew from Elevation Church leading it!

It seems relevant as we dealt with the story of Joseph this weekend, but our lives are filled with desert seasons. Oftentimes, it’s really easy for us to get focused on thinking, “If God was really here, then surely this never would happen, right?” In Joseph’s life, lots of unfair stuff happened. He was beaten by his brothers, sold into slavery, thrown into prison for a crime that he did not commit, and even forgotten about in prison for two years. Yet Genesis 39:20-21 contains this strangely cryptic, yet truthful line: “The LORD was with Joseph.” What?

In the midst of our struggles with life, let’s not mistake the silence of God for his absence in our lives. When results aren’t turning out the way we would hope or expect, let’s not turn our backs on God – let’s instead respond in praise and humility, trusting that God will lead us, provide for us as he sees fit, and transform our hearts as we obey him… even when we’re in the desert.
