Most would rather not!

We kicked off a new series this Sunday at Suncrest called “Financial Peace.”  Money is the #1 area where people do NOT have peace.  We have let money manage us instead of us managing money.  It has become a master.  But Jesus said,

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate one and be devoted to the other or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Luke 16:13

There is no riding the fence in making Jesus our LORD.  He is either LORD of all or not LORD at all.

Yet we live with this tension where money is the chief competitor for God’s Lordship.  And one of the areas, if not the area where we see this the most is in debt.  In our culture debt is the norm.  I read a recent stat that had the average debt load to be around $15,000.  Broke and $15,000 in the hole is normal.  If that’s normal, I don’t want to be normal!

Plus, Proverbs 22:7 says,

The borrower is slave to the lender.

If we have debt then we have a 2nd master.  We have someone else who has a right to at least a small part of our life.  If you don’t believe me, try not paying your credit card bill for two months and see if someone else doesn’t have a right to a part of your life!

The solution to making Jesus Lord of all?

Dump debt!

Short but hard answer.  But your Heavenly Father wants this so desperately for you.  He wants to help you and walk with you through the process of becoming debt free.  And Suncrest wants to be a catalyst for His help with a program called Financial Peace University.  It is the absolute best program out there to work towards financial freedom.  Specifically if you need help getting control of your finances, developing a plan, dumping debt and planning for the future, this is the program for you.  We have classes starting at both the St. John and Hobart Campuses February 6th.  Find out more by emailing Robin.

Do it and you will have less stuff.  But do it and you will have more peace!
